In the first quarter of 2026, Tesla began to build the first units of its Cybercab robotaxi, as the official report states. It is a change because the company now makes the driverless taxi platform instead of just developing it.
To ensure the production works well, Tesla uses this early phase to test the steps and make them efficient. By doing this the company prepares to manufacture the Cybercab in large quantities later. At the same time Tesla expands other areas, like when it increases how many batteries and materials the facilities in Texas produce.
For its long term plan, Tesla intends for the Cybercab to be the main part of a network for taxis that drive themselves. As the business model changes, the company wants to provide services that rely on autonomous driving. To improve how the vehicles drive, Tesla uses data that it collects from artificial intelligence in the real world.
If the start of this early production is an important step, the company must still find a way to produce many vehicles - but Tesla says that increasing how much it manufactures is difficult because some things are not certain - those factors include limited supplies of parts, the use of new technologies for building cars and the general state of the economy.
On the whole the update shows that Tesla no longer just has an idea but has started to carry out the Cybercab program. And the company expects to increase production slowly as it prepares to offer the vehicles to the public for use.
